1 - MULTIPLE LEVEL SECURITY PROTOCOL

In 2008 VASTEC digitized more than 10 million Federal documents to 508 accessibility standards. The work is done under multiple security levels inside VASTEC's 17,000 square foot facility in Tampa, Florida.

2 - HIGH SPEED SCANNING AND PREPARATION

VASTEC takes boxes of paper documents and prepares them for high-speed scanning. All other electronic material, including microfiche, can also be converted into 508 accessible material.

3 - INITIAL ACCESSIBILTY AND CREATION

This is the start of the 508 conversion process. A technician reviews each document, creating structure by putting columns in boxes that will determine read order.

4 - OPTICAL CHARACTER RECOGNITION

VASTEC's optical character recognition (OCR) process is state of the art. While many companies rely on a single OCR, VASTEC utilizes multiple, parallel OCR engines to process all material, to ensure accurate conversion into electronic documents.

5 - OCR REMEDIATION

Now each document is personally reviewed. Misspellings from original documents are corrected and abbreviations are written out. This makes the document fully accessible and improves cross-reference capabilities.

6 - QUALITY ASSESSMENT OF 508 COMPLIANCE

VASTEC's quality control goes above anything offered by any other digitization company. After OCR remediation another VASTEC professional reviews each document, this time checking read order, while testing the screen reader and search functions.

7 - SECURE DESTRUCTION OF PAPER DOCUMENTS

Original paper documents can be returned to the client, or destroyed on-site to Department of Defense Level 3 Standards.

8 - THE COMPLETE 508 SOLUTION
